Finding the Outlook Express Error Code

This page can help you determine exactly which error message(s) or code(s) you are encountering when Outlook Express tells you "Some errors occurred while processing the requested tasks".

  1. Click "Details" to Show Errors

If you see a message similar to the one above ("Some errors occurred while processing the requested tasks."), click the "Details" button to reveal the specific error message(s) you are encountering.

  2. Locate the Error Message, Click "Details" to Hide Errors

Continue reading below to learn more about the example error message. You can usually resolve a problem if you make note of the Outlook Express error number (ie: 800ccc97) and visit our Outlook Express - Common Errors page. If you request our assistance, we will usually ask for the "Server Response" and "Error Number". When you are finished, you can click the "Details" button if you would like to hide the error messages.

    Reading the Example Error Message:

    • The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected address was 'jsmith@example.com'.

The message was NOT delivered because the server will not accept mail for "jsmith@example.com".

    • Subject: 'test'

The original message subject was simply "test".

    • Account: 'mail.example.com'

This tells us that Outlook Express is trying to send the message through the mail account "mail.example.com". This mail account is shown in your list of Internet Accounts (Tools > Accounts...).

    • Server: 'mail.example.com'

This tells us that Outlook Express is trying to send the message through the mail server "mail.example.com". Correct spelling of this mail server is a must!

    • Protocol: SMTP

SMTP is used to send mail. POP3 or IMAP are used to receive mail.

    • Server Response: '553 sorry, that domain isn't allowed to be relayed through this MTA (#5.7.1)'

This is the entire error message returned by the server.

    • Port: 25

SMTP usually uses ports 25 or 8025. POP3 usually uses port 110. IMAP usually uses port 143.

    • Secure(SSL): No

Secure/SSL will usually show "No" (ie: disabled/off).

    • Server Error: 553

This is the error code returned by the server.

    • Error Number: 0x800ccc79

This is the error number returned by Outlook Express.
